Resources
Detailed documentation on process specification, case studies, and manuals explaining the design and execution environment is available.
YAWL is based on the well-known Workflow Patterns initiative and provides comprehensive support for these patterns.
YAWL uses concepts from Workflow Nets, which are derived from Petri Nets, and extends these with support for concepts such as cancellation, or-join and multiple instances.
There are a number of ways to seek support for the use of the YAWL environment. In addition, it may be possible to contribute to its enhancements.

Research
It is imperative that complex long-lasting processes can be checked before deployment.
Exceptions cannot always be foreseen and occur naturally in the course of a running process. They give rise to important learning experiences.
Processes can exhibit complex behaviour and design time insights, e.g. wrt cost, time and resource utilisation, can be acquired through simulation.
Modern BPM environments should support configuration of reference models depending on the context in which they are to be deployed.
Visualisation
A means of improving process performance through the use of maps and visualising work items.
Declarative Workflow
For some types of applications it is preferable to specify a workflow through a collection of constraints. This is supported by the DECLARE service.
